The faith in Europe leads into the future The european picture is a multiform. It does not only concern the available Statement to follow different interpretations; but will have to look for and describe the historical bases of the present and future Europe. the target of a European, civic education: Thus can be said that the picture today in European, a series of components, led up to the present and must now be fed to an entireness. Here I would like to ask you, to engage yourself everywhere for it urgently to work that our present youth, which remained saved from the doubts and the conditions of our own youth, which concerns the faith in Europe, in this adjustment not to be shaken, but to be encouraged. So I am convinced that we have to do it with a youth, who beleives in Europe Our major function is now that you awake and arouse a belief, which you then pass on to young people. It is necessary to overcome prejudices and false historical opinions of some of the older generation. The experienced backgrounds of the older and the younger generation are too different, without serious readiness for sacrifice and without love so that one can come to a common target, to a Europe connecting both generations . . If we let the experience world of today's youth pass , we estimate the whole tragic and force of the historical change in Europe of the 20th century . The further we penetrate now into the area of the younger generation, the natural relation to Europe in its current shape becomes less complicated. Today's youth, today's European youth, detests the nationalism of the past. A European national consciousness will be therefore only one act of the mental-cultural self meditation and never glide into the areas of the chauvinism , whose return nobody seriously requires. We must follow the internationally usual terminology and be a member in the chain of sovereign nations. So seen the thought of the national self-sufficiency of Europe and its peoples are under no circumstances gliding into past areas of the nationalism, but an overdue act of European self meditation as a prerequisite for the accomplishment of the important European function at the neuralgic point of this continent. To these obligations , comes an additional one I mean, the central political-cultural job, in the fulfilment of which music is able to offer crucial assistance. With this I mean clarifying and protecting of the term nation and the evidence of possibilities of cultural co-ordination of the nations in the service of a superordinate mankind idea . Today the equalization of language community and cultural community is not able to a any longer withstand a serious criticism . Surely this supranational function, which is deeply justified in the historical development , is also a reason for the partially painful process at the birth of a consciousness of a European nation . Today too much is written and spoken of the unmastered past. Surely passed epochs put shadows over Europe. But with internal messages such as lubricants of old symbols one does not force historical development. However it depends only on the belief of our hearts , if the love for Europe is to shape in the European youth .
The point is no more to control to conquer to suppress!! Free of the load of domination, because it is a load ; only the suspicious want to control others; free of controversy we are able to realize this function better than in former times. All this is particularly said to the youth. This attitude appears to me of importance to set a target. A target, which is for the youth, missing so far. No romantic target floating in the clouds;today's youth will not acceppt that. . But a target, from which the enthusiasm can catch fire, because without enthusiasm youth, today's youth do not manage . It is to the youth to prepare and work on it. And I believe in this youth, in the youth, that is our future . It is now up to the older ones to support them and not to criticize, but to assist them with our experience and our knowledge, in
partnership . |
